Ulaanbaatar, August 4, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Construction of the Dambadarjaa Thermal Power Plant, which will have a thermal generation capacity of 63 megawatts to supply heating to Selbe city and the surrounding Dambadarjaa area, is currently over 20 percent complete.

First Deputy Governor of the Capital City Davaadalai Tumendalai and accompanying officials visited the construction site, located in Khoroo No. 19 of Chingeltei District, to inspect the construction progress.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is implementing the project to provide investment support in developing ger districts under the Ulaanbaatar Urban Services and Ger Areas Development Investment Program, which aims to improve infrastructure and living conditions in ger area subcenters. Approximately 29 megawatts of the Plant’s total thermal output are designated for the Dambadarjaa area, while the remaining 34 megawatts will supply residential apartments in the northern part of the Selbe city.

Chief Engineer of the Ulaanbaatar Ger Area Development and Investment Program Janlavtsogzol Gankhuyag stated, “Construction and installation work began in April this year and is now more than 20 percent complete. Foundation work is over 70 percent finished. Construction materials that meet required standards are being procured from the People’s Republic of China as needed. Seventeen truckloads of steel structures for the main boiler have already arrived at the border. According to the schedule, construction is to be completed by August next year, with trial operations set to begin in September. The contractor has been instructed to complete the boiler and external structures before the beginning of winter. The chimney will stand 86 meters tall, and assembly has currently reached 65 meters. By August 15, 2025, the full chimney structure will be assembled, after which internal high-temperature-resistant lining works will begin.”

The agreement for the Dambadarjaa Thermal Power Plant construction project was signed on October 3, 2023. The China Second Metallurgical Group Corporation Ltd. is working as the contractor.
