Altai airport launches new runway

Gobi-Altai /MONTSAME/ Altai airport under the Civil Aviation Authority in Gobi-Altai aimag, situated in the western part of Mongolia, some 1000 km from Ulaanbaatar, has now new paved runway. The opening ceremony was held on 12 June with attendance of Minister of Road and Transport Development D.Ganbat, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority L.Byambasuren, MP Sh.Radnaased, authorities of Gobi-Altai aimag and other officials.
Zaabar Company, contractor of the project started the construction in 2008, handing over gravel runway in 2009 and 3620 m long flood protection dam in 2013. The company completed the 2.9 km long paved runway, 275 m long and 1 m wide taxiway and 120x85 m aircraft stand at the end of 2016.
“Hunnu Air” company will conduct regular flight between Ulaanbaatar and Altai. Arrival/departure building of the airport with hourly capacity of 100 passengers was put into service in October 2012.
