Mongolia’s contribution to protect interests of landlocked developing countries praised

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh yesterday held a meeting with UN Under-Secretary General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) Courtenay Rattray during the United Nations Climate Change Conference and exchanged views on the issues of cooperation.


At the outset of the meeting, President U.Khurelsukh congratulated High Representative Courtenay Rattray on his appointment and wished success in his future endeavors. Noting that Mongolia attaches great importance to accelerating implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Vienna Action Plan for Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), President U.Khurelsukh presented the national policies, activities and initiatives to combat global warming and climate change. Furthermore, he thanked the support provided by the UN-OHRLLS in ensuring the entry-into-force of agreement on establishing Ulaanbaatar-based International Think Tank for LLDCs.


In his turn, High Representative Courtenay Rattray praised Mongolia's effort to protect the interests of LLDCs and expressed that OHRLLS stands ready to support and cooperate with Mongolia in the areas of transportation, logistics, trade facilitation and capacity building. The High Representative emphasized that the initiative to plant a billion trees, spearheaded by the President of Mongolia, will make a significant contribution to the international community's efforts to mitigate global warming, desertification, land degradation and climate change.


Moreover, the parties exchanged views on possibilities of organizing international conferences on LLDCs in Ulaanbaatar.
