“Galdan Boshgot-380” Exhibition Opens at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum of Mongolia
Art & CultureUlaanbaatar, January 3, 2024 /MONTSAME/. On December 27, 2024, the “Galdan Boshgot Khaan-380: Archival Documents” Exhibition opened in the “Silver Tree” Hall of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum of Mongolia.
The Exhibition is notable for showcasing rare and invaluable historical artifacts, including a letter sent by Galdan Boshgot Khaan of the Dzungar Khanate to the Russian Tsar, relics related to the history of the fight against the Manchus, and documents regarding the history of Mongolia during the 17th century kept in the Russian State Archives of Ancient Documents.
Galdan Boshgot Khaan was a prominent military leader who led the opposition forces that fought decisively against the Manchu invasion and resisted the Manchu’s aggressive policy. He implemented legal and administrative reforms, expanding the Mongolian territories as far as Central Asia and East Turkestan. Moreover, he is credited with introducing firearms in Mongolia for the first time, establishing an ironworks plant that produced large quantities of weapons, armor, and swords.
Galdan Boshgot Khaan ascended the throne during a politically critical period but successfully carried out domestic political, economic, and administrative reforms, establishing the Dzungar Khanate. He is also remembered as a religious figure who promoted Tibetan Buddhism, built monasteries and temples, and translated numerous religious books into Mongolian.
