Ulaanbaatar, February 10, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The first Meeting of the Mongolia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economy, Science, and Technology Cooperation was held in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan, on February 6-7, 2025. During the Meeting, the two sides agreed to open Trade and Economic Representative Offices in Ulaanbaatar and Tashkent respectively. The Mongolian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan were tasked with establishing the Trade and Economic Representative Offices.

During the Intergovernmental Commission Meeting, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan, heading the Mongolian side of the Commission, and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zhamshid Khodjaev, heading the Uzbek side of the Commission, held official talks.

Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Amarsaikhan emphasized that a number of initiatives discussed during the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Khodjaev in August 2024 in Ulaanbaatar have been realized at the Intergovernmental Commission Meeting. Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Khodjaev expressed gratitude for the intensive development of cooperation between the two countries over the past two years and expressed confidence that the first Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in Tashkent would yield effective and practical decisions.

This was the first Intergovernmental Commission Meeting to be held since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Republic of Uzbekistan in 1992. Mongolia shares many similarities with Uzbekistan, a country with a growing economy, including being landlocked. Therefore, the two countries are discussing the expansion of relations and cooperating in areas including infrastructure, transportation, logistics, agriculture, and light industry, mutually utilizing their advantages and resources and reducing trade barriers facing trade between Mongolia and Uzbekistan. 

The Mongolian Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted that the decision to open Trade and Economic Representative Offices is the realization of the commitments of the two countries to intensify economic cooperation with the countries in the Central Asia region.

The Mongolian side of the Intergovernmental Commission Meeting consisted of Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Republic of Uzbekistan Batbaatar Daadankhuu, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Environment, Food, and Agriculture of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Beisen Bulan, and President of the Mongolian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tur-Od Lkhagvajav.
