Ulaanbaatar, November 7, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The 43rd Session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is taking place in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan, from October 30  to November 13, 2025.

This marks a historic milestone, as it is the first time in four decades that the UNESCO General Conference is convening outside its headquarters in Paris.

The Mongolian delegation, led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of France and Permanent Representative to UNESCO Nyamkhuu Ulambayar, and comprising officials from the Permanent Mission, the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth, is participating in the session.

On November 1, Ambassador Nyamkhuu Ulambayar delivered a statement during the General Policy Debate, highlighting UNESCO’s increasingly vital role in addressing global challenges such as climate change and social fragmentation, and in fostering peace and sustainable development, and reaffirmed Mongolia’s steadfast commitment to UNESCO’s mission and foundational values.

Ambassador Nyamkhuu further emphasized the importance of the resolution “History of Nomadic Civilizations Series,” initiated and adopted by Mongolia, as a meaningful contribution to the promotion of nomadic cultural heritage and the global recognition of the historical, cultural, and societal contributions of nomadic peoples to the advancement of human civilization.

Mongolia informed Member States of its candidacy for the 2025-2029 term of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, expressing its commitment to actively contributing to global efforts to combat climate change and to safeguard cultural and natural heritage. It was also noted that Mongolia is preparing to host the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties  (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Ulaanbaatar in 2026.
