Minister S.Erdene addresses UN Third committee meeting

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Population Development and Social Welfare of Mongolia S.Erdene made an address to the meeting of Third Committee of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly on October 7.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, adopted a few days ago, include nine goals concerning social issues, he noted. “We are in the eve of an era, when our collective power should help achieve the goals to eradicate poverty and reduce social inequality”, said the Minister.

He continued about Mongolia’s state policies and perspectives toward youth, elders and the disabled, and for family development.

S.Erdene also highlighted that, in 2009, The National Strategy on Life Expectancy and State Policy on Pensions Renovation for 2015-2030 were adopted and Youth development centers started operating in localities, plus, the year of 2014 was announced as The Year for Promoting Family Development.

The cabinet has been working on preparing a draft law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in order to satisfy the general principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, he underlined.
