Tree-planting day celebrated

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A “Public tree-planting day” was celebrated October 10--the event that has  run in accordance with a Presidential decree on Saturdays of the second weeks of every May and October since 2010. The state authorities, companies, NGOs, families and individuals throughout the country took active parts in this environmentally efficient event.

Last Saturday, the President Ts.Elbegdorj planted an eight-year-old spruce in the mini-garden of Tasganii Ovoo. The garden is a work of “Ulaanbaatar-Fresh Air” project. The President appealed the people to plant shrubberies, grown in Mongolia, for the fact that they are more tolerant of Mongolia’s climate.

According to the President, a total of 8.8 million trees were planted of which 5.6 million or some 70 percent have been growing since he issued the decree in 2010. “This is a decent result”, he said.

Speaker of parliament Z.Enkhbold along with Ministers and other officials planted trees in the National Garden in Ulaanbaatar.

As a result of the planting and of constant care in order to create a comfort for people and to protect the environment, some 110 thous.trees and bushes have been planted and 28.5 ha have been turned into lawns.

The Speaker took a moment to express a gratitude to the gathered, as well as to the citizens and organizations around the country who are participating the event, for their contributions to a "sacred deed of increasing green areas, forestation and remediation of the nature".
