Uruguay to cooperate with Mongolia in producing cheese

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On August 17, the very first Mongolia-Uruguay business meeting took place in the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI).

It was co-organized by the MNCCI and the Embassy of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay in Beijing with participation of 27 delegates of 22 enterprises so as to present business and investing potentials in Uruguay to Mongolian companies and entrepreneurs.

The two countries established the diplomatic relations over two decades ago, Mr. M.Sarandavaa, Deputy CEO of MNCCI, said, and emphasized that the nations have great potentials to cooperate in many spheres especially in the transportation and logistics, during his opening remarks.

Mr. Fernando Lugris, Concurrent Non-Resident Ambassador of Uruguay to Mongolia, also underlined the countries have huge opportunities for a fruitful cooperation because they have common shares such as a tiny population and the agriculture-dominant economy.

Following the opening remarks, Mr. Anibal Cabral, Head of the International Economy Department of the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered a report on the external trade and exporting goods and services of Uruguay. This country is one of the biggest beef exporters worldwide, and it accounts for 12 percent of Uruguay’s total export. Apart from beef, Uruguay exports dairy products including cheese, and the main purchasers are Brazil, USA, China, Russia and Turkey. Mr. Anibal Cabral said his country aspires to cooperate with Mongolia in producing cheese. Besides these products, Uruguay has become a large exporter of service sector, particularly in business, communications and financial spheres, the report says.

Uruguay is ranked first in its region by the investment environment, business opportunities, stability, the indexes of democracy, transparency and equality, said Mr. Antonio Carambula Sagasti, Executive Director of the Uruguay XXI, Export and Investment Agency.

At a reception held after the meeting, it was stated the Consulate of Uruguay will open soon in Mongolia, and Mr. T.Ganbold, Director of the 'Altan Dornod Mongol' LLC, was appointed as Honorary Consul of Uruguay.
