Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi JSC to cooperate with scholars

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Erdenes-Tavan Tolgoi JSC today organized a consultative meeting themed ‘Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi-Innovation and Production’ in collaboration with the National Council of Mongolian Scholars. At the meeting, scholars, scientists and economists from the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the National University of Mongolia and the Mongolian University of Sciences and Technology delivered and discussed 11 presentations.
In particular, Academician S.Batmunkh and Ph.D Kh.Enkhjargal, N.Unurmaa and
G.Yondongombo presented their research under the topic ‘Power supply issue required
for introducing new technology in Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi deposit and its Solutions’.
"Tavan Tolgoi deposit has a reserve of up to 10 billion cubic meter of
methane. As for energy, one cubic meter of methane gas equals to one liter of
diesel fuel. Therefore, it means TT deposit has a reserve of 10 billion liters
of diesel fuel. Mongolia consumes over a million ton of diesel fuel a year in
total. As this source of energy is a gas, it is ecofriendly and is usable
on the spot," G.Yondongombo explained.
Extracting methane gas is economically beneficial for Mongolia and the Chinese market is interested in it, he added. It is estimated that 800 mWt energy can be produced and exported in the first stage. Mongolia needs to improve its power system of southern region. Therefore, use of coal mine methane will allow to ensure this need, the scholars estimated.
Furthermore, within
the framework of increasing efficiency and productivity of Tavan Tolgoi
deposit, Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi JSC established a Memorandum of Cooperation with
the National Council of Mongolian Scholars to introduce high technology, produce
smokeless fuel and gas, protect workers' health and to develop eco-production.
