Indian dance festival organized
Art & CultureUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ On March 14, 22nd annual Festival of Indian dance- ‘Melody of Ganga
river’ was co-organized by the Indian cultural center in
Mongolia and Children’s Palace. The event was supported by the Government of
India through the Embassy of India to Mongolia.
The
Indian Cultural Center has been operating since 1994 upon its establishment
within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government
of Mongolia and the Government of the Republic of India with the purpose of
promoting culture, civilization, and education in Mongolia.
The
Indian Culture Center has been organizing the Festival of Indian dance – ‘Melody
of Ganga river’ since 1996 among
students of high schools in Mongolia, and every year it attracts nearly 200-300
at the age of 6-15 old who are passionate about and learning Indian
dances.
This year, there were 260 participants from 6 districts (Baganuur, Bayangol, Bayanzurh, Songinohairhan, Sukhbaatar, Khan-Uul) and 11 provinces (Arkhankhangai, Bulgan, Darkhan-Uul, Dornod, Dornogovi, Zavkhan, Uvurkhangai, Selenge, Khuvsgul, Orkhon, Tuv).
Seventeen teams (108 participants) were awarded in three categories: winner, runner-up, third
place, fourth place.
Moreover, 6 teachers out of 23 were awarded for their excellence. They were
from Baganuur district, Arkhangai, Bulgan, Dornod, Khuvsgul, and Uvurkhangai
provinces.
For this festival, Ms. Kouisiki Lalatika Patnaik, who is an Indian Odissi dancer and a television artist at the Doordarshan Kendra, Prasar Bharti, India’s Public Service Broadcaster, was invited to judge and perform at the gala show. Owing to the fact that her performance was outstanding, she is invited to perform on the stage of Government’s Palace of Mongolia during ‘Value of family and parents’ responsibility’ conference under Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia auspices.
