First Neuroscience Institute established

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The first ever Institute of Neuroscience has been established at the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS), holding its opening ceremony today, April 24.  


Establishment of the Institute of Neuroscience will create conditions to develop modern scientific sector, to introduce advanced technologies, to create inter-sectoral research platform as well as to strengthen favorable conditions to conduct basic research and clinical researches and trials and develop collaboration with foreign and domestic research institutes.


Furthermore, studies will be made on mental and neurological disorders such as depression, suicide, anxiety, addiction, apoplexy, hypertension and nervous prostration, which are most common among population.


“We aim to establish inter-sectoral research laboratory in the future and introduce genetic engineering technologies. Currently, eight people are being employed in the institute and the number of personnel will be raised further,” said L.Battuvshin, Director of the Institute and Executive Director of Mongolian Neuroscience Society.   


Director of the MNUMS J.Tsolmon said that now Mongolia has top priority research laboratory. "The institute was equipped with high capacity, up-to-date equipment and devices worth about MNT 2.4 billion. Black mouse colon, which is widely used in genetic engineering and other researches, is being bred in the laboratory. Moreover, President of the International Brain Research Organization Pierre Magistretti, editor-in-chief of ‘Neuroscience’ scientific journal and Noble Prize Laureate Edvard Moser and Director of the Institute of Neuroscience at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Mu-ming Poo expressed to render assistance and I am happy with it.”
