Ambassador L.Purevsuren chairs the expert meeting in Geneva

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Permanent Representative, Ambassador L.Purevsuren has been elected as a Chair of the 7th session of the Multi-year Expert Meeting on Transport, Trade logistics and Trade facilitation being held in Geneva May 7-9, 2019.

The session under the theme ‘Trade facilitation and transit in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’ will investigate in more detail how trade facilitation and transit can contribute to the achievement of sustainable development. The discussions during the three days meeting will focus on general trade facilitation reforms and the implementation of World Trade Organisation (WTO) Agreement on Trade Facilitation, which entered into force in February 2017.

The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), among other international organisations, is assisting WTO members that ratified the Agreement with its implementation. The meeting will also provide an opportunity to discuss developments related to trade facilitation and transit issues, consider UNCTAD work and technological solution aimed at assisting developing and least developed countries implementing the trade facilitation reform, optimising cross-border aspects of the trade facilitation at the national, regional and international level. Moreover, the participants will discuss meaningful ways of collaboration and coordination  between countries in order to implement transit provisions of the Agreement in the landlocked developing countries and transit developing countries, the role of bilateral and regional agreements, and share experiences of good practices of transit tools and solutions supporting trade facilitation.
