Japanese Professor becomes Honorary Doctorate of MAS
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On June 6, Professor of the Kyushu
University of Japan Noriyuki Yasufuku was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the
Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS). The professor has been awarded in
recognition of his contribution to environment and desertification research for
Mongolia.
Since 2009, Kyushu University’s researchers headed by Professor
Noriyuki Yasufuku, in collaboration with their counterparts from MAS Institute
of General and Experimental Biology, have carried out research on reducing
desertification through cultivation of medicinal plants in Mongolia’s arid
regions in Bogd soum, Bayankhongor aimag. As a result of the research, Ural
liquorice distribution and abundance in Baatsagaan and Bogd soums of
Bayankhongor aimag have been re-estimated and its growing environment has been
identified through monitoring of many years. Moreover, advanced technologies for
cultivation of the medicinal plant is being developed according to the research
result.
The research brings numerous socio-economic benefits such as
ensuring eco-friendly green development in gobi soums, creating jobs, helping to cope with the climate change, and reducing desertification.
