Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. In the framework of the project, ‘Leveraging Technology and Tradition for Resilience in Rural Mongolia-2’, jointly implemented by the National Emergency Management Agency and Mercy Corps Mongolia, an SMS platform was introduced in partnership with domestic telecommunication operators and a special system was developed in aims of providing real-time, on-demand weather information to herders.

The project team introduced the results of the external audit done on the system’s security, operations and the reliability of information, and reported that the system and server security has been approved by the auditor.

Representatives of NEMA, the National Agency of Meteorology and Environment Monitoring (NAMEM), Information and Research Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment, National Statistical Office, and ‘Alpha Lab’ LLC attended the meeting, discussing further improvement of system accessibility and consistent operations.

The on-demand weather forecast and pasture information system was presented to NEMA by Mercy Corps Mongolia in 2018. With the use of the system, over 20,000 herders of 330 soums in 21 aimags are receiving information and warnings about severe weather and possible disasters issued by NEMA and NAMEM.
