Role of education for human rights in preventing human rights violations highlighted

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) P.Oyunchimeg participated in the ‘Busan Democracy Forum 2019’ that was held under the theme, ‘Transformative Global Citizenship Education for Peaceful, Just, and Inclusive Societies’, in Busan, Republic of Korea on October 14-16. Alongside being the discussion moderator for the topic, ‘Education for Democracy in Asia’, she introduced the NHRC’s role and participation in supporting the education for human rights in Mongolia. 

 

In her remarks, she highlighted the important role of education for human rights in preventing human rights violations, and shared how the NHRC is currently working in partnership with corresponding bodies to support the education. For instance, the commission is cooperating with law colleges and universities, and the Mongolian Bar Association in introducing the human rights course as a compulsory course for a degree in law.

 

The ‘Busan Democracy Forum 2019’ is being organized by the Metropolitan City of Busan and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in partnership with the UNESCO Asia Pacific Center for Education for International Understanding, Asia Development Alliance, Asia Democracy Network, and international and local institutions and organizations that work in the framework of the implementation of the SDGs, especially SDG target 5.7, and the Goal 16, which is to create peace, justice and strong institutions.
