145 twins born in the country in January

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. At the national level, in January 2020, the number of mothers delivered child reached 6208, increased by 252 (4.2%) compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of mothers delivered a child and antenatal care covered for six more times reached 4619 (74.4%), increased by 158 (3.5%) compared to the same period of the previous year. There were registered 16 (0.3%) home births, decreased by 5 (23.8%) compared to the same period of the previous year.  


According to the ‘Electronic birth registration’ of the Ministry of Health, 6133 mothers delivered child, and 6206 children got registration numbers.


In January 2020, from total newborn, 3160 were male, 3046 were female and there were 145 twins. The average weight of newborns was 3390 grams and the average height of newborns was 50.7 cm. By age groups, 3.7 percent of mothers delivered a child were under 20 years old, 92.6 percent were 20-39 years old and 3.7 percent were over 40 years old.


In January 2020, 1.2 percent of mothers delivered a child had no education, 4.7 percent -- primary education, 12.5 percent -- lower secondary education, 34.8 percent -- upper secondary education, 6.0 percent -- technical and vocational education, 39.2 percent -- diploma and bachelor’s degree and 1.6 percent -- masters or higher education.


From all mothers who gave birth, 40.3 percent were officially married, 58.5 percent were not officially married, and 1.2 percent were divorced. At the national level, in January 2020, the number of births reached 6260, of which 6022 (96.2%) babies were early initiation of breast-feeding, increased by 220 (3.8%) compared to the same period of the previous year.


Of the total numbers of live births, 55 (0.9%) had congenital abnormalities and 323 (5.2%) were less than 2500 grams in weight. The stillbirth rate was 4.5 per 1000 total births.
