Railroad wrecked by flood immediately fixed back to normal

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On June 20-21, due to heavy rain, Tuv and Gobisumber aimags were hit by flooding.


The floods left the gers of 409 families and basements of 4 apartment blocks filled with water, washed away gers of 16 households, and destroyed 83 fences in Zuunmod and Altanbulag soums of Tuv aimag and took away the dwellings of 3 families, and killed around 1,000 head of livestock in Sumber soum of Gobisumber aimag.


The natural disaster also affected roads, railroads, and traffic facilities. Thanks to the fast response of the emergency department, the roads and railroads were reopened for traffic on June 23 at 5 PM.


A total of 113 people, 81 emergency officials and 32 local officials were on job to rescue flood-affected citizens and families and relieve the flood damage and saved the lives of 32 citizens and pulled 57 vehicles out of water.


In consequence of pouring rain on June 24, Kherlen soum of Khentii aimag was also flooded and homes of 149 households, 15 business entities, and the basements of 9 apartment blocks were affected and 7 vehicles got stuck in mud.


The Cabinet on June 23 decided to provide gers for 51 households left homeless by the floods with MNT 178.5 million from foreign aid funds.
