Carried freight from all types of transport decreased by 12.6 percent in 2020

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. At the end of 2020, 60.3 million tonnes of freight were carried in total by all types of transport. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the carried freight was dropped by 8.7 million tonnes (12.6%).

This decrease was mainly due to 10.4 million tonnes (25.4%)-decrease in road transport freight. Over the past year, 126.5 million passengers (repeated counting) were carried in total by all types of transport. The number of carried passengers was dropped by 46.5 million (26.9%) compared to the same period of the previous year. It was mainly due to the decrease of 44.3 million passengers (26.3%) in road transport.

Road transport:  At the end of 2020, 30.5 million tonnes of freight and 124.1 million passengers (repeated counting) were carried by road transport. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the carried cargo fell by 10.4 million tonnes (25.4%), and the number of carried passengers decreased by 44.3 million passengers (26.3%), which were caused by a reduction in the transportation volume of mining products by 6.8 million tons or 20.2% and the number of passengers (repeated counting) in the Capital by 40.4 million (26.5%).  In the fourth quarter of 2020, carried freight by road transport increased by 3.2 million tonnes (34.5%), while the number of passengers decreased by 11.2 million (30.0%) compared to the previous quarter.


Rail transport: At the end of 2020, 29.8 million tonnes of freight were carried by railway transport, increased by 1.7 million tonnes (6.0%) compared to the previous year.

Air transport: At the end of 2020, 2.5 thousand tonnes of freight carried by air transportation decreased by 3.2 thousand tonnes (56.0%) compared to the previous year.
