SEC decides to put the capital city under quarantine from February 11 to 23

At its meeting dated on February 3, the State Emergency Commission (SEC) made a decision to declare public readiness for disaster protection or to put the capital city under strict quarantine during the Lunar New Year from February 11 to 23 with a view to prevent from the risk of coronavirus spread.

About the decision, the Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the SEC S.Amarsaikhan said “We visit and invite our parents, relatives and friends during the Lunar New Year celebration. However, the situation of the pandemic is likely to get worse in the future. Therefore, we considered it proper to impose quarantine during this period based on calculation made by the scholars and researchers. The Lunar New Year celebration can cause high risk to the health of our elders. Therefore, we are calling upon citizens to virtually celebrate the Lunar New Year and greet each other through online. The Government and the SEC are developing strategy to combat the pandemic. In doing so, we are aiming to make the economic activities normal, revive the economy and ensure health safety .

He added that the SEC also decided not to organize traditional wrestling tournament of the Lunar New Year. "As we are imposing quarantine in the capital city, it is impossible to organize the wrestling tournament. We hope that the Mongolian Wrestling Federation and wrestlers would understand and accept the decision."
