Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first political party in Mongolia - the Mongolian People's Party, the leaders of the MPP and MPRP laid wreaths and paid tribute to the statue of General D.Sukhbaatar.

Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene, Speaker of the Parliament G.Zandanshatar, Leader of the MPP U.Khurelsukh and Leader of the MPRP N.Enkhbayar and other members of the parties took part in the wreath laying ceremony.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Mongols broke free from Manchu rule, but were on the brink of losing their independence due to many external and internal factors. At that time, several secret groups were formed to fight for Mongolia's independence, and on June 25, 1920, the Consular and Khuree groups merged to form the MPP. On this day in 1921, the group held a secret meeting, engraved the first seal of the People's Government out of S.Danzan's mahogany table, and officially established the Mongolian People's Party. Since the People's Revolution of 1921, the party has ruled Mongolia for 70 years.

In 2004, the Parliament amended the Law on Public Holidays and Celebrations to make March 1 of each year a “Patriots Day”. In November 2010, the MPRP restored its former name and has become the MPP. Opposing this, a group of the party united and formed the MPRP independently. On February 25, 2016, the leaders of the MPP and MPRP signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly celebrate “Patriots' Day”.
