Mongolia expresses interest to cooperate with ADB in renewable energy field

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. During the COP 26 World Leaders Summit taking place in Glazgow, UK, Mongolia’s President U. Khurelsukh held a meeting with ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa.


At the outset of the meeting, the President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh highlighted that this year marks 30th anniversary of Mongolia-ADB partnership, and congratulated on the anniversary. He expressed satisfaction with the Country Partnership Strategy from 2021 to 2024 which focuses on the implementation of more projects and programs towards climate change and green development.


President U.Khurelsukh spoke about his initiative ‘One billion trees’ nationwide campaign with a purpose to intensify the fight against climate change in Mongolia and reduce desertification and dust storms.


Mr. Khurelsukh also expressed willingness to introduce the best practices of other countries to implement green development policy in Mongolia, in particular to increase green financing, and to work closely with ADB in the renewable energy field.


For his part, Mr. Masatsugu Asakawa highlighted that ADB has decided to cooperate with Mongolia in a wider scope on combating climate change and ecosystem degradation, and to increase funding with significant amount. He added that in this direction, the ADB will support the Mongolian President’s the green development policy, proposals and initiatives.


At the meeting, the parties exchanged views in detail on Mongolia-ADB cooperation, priorities, projects and programs to be implemented.
