Green Days of Autumn fair taking place
EconomyUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. ‘Green Days of Autumn’ fair is
taking place at the Central Stadium from September 19 to 25. The event is being
organized for the 17th year by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light
Industry, Ulaanbaatar city government, Food and Agriculture Organization of the
United Nations, World Bank and ADB.
At the fair, farmers from the capital and 21 aimags and local
producers are offering newly harvested crops, honey, and baked goods.
In the opening ceremony, Minister of Food, Agriculture and
Light Industry Kh. Bolorchuluun said, “50 percent of the total labor force
works in the agricultural sector, which accounts for 30 percent of the GDP. As
the minister of food and agriculture, I aim to build conditions for the production
of highly efficient final products using new technologies.”
UNFAO Country Representative in Mongolia Vinod Ahuja
stressed, “Lifestyles are becoming more and more interdependent in this era of
globalization. Ensuring food safety, waste-free harvesting and storage,
protection of biological diversity from human impact, and healthy eating have
become the most important thing. No one should be left out of this change since
we are interdependent. UNFAO is working together with the Government of
Mongolia to ensure food security and eliminate nutritional deficiencies.
Attentions should be paid to how foods are processed, harvested, distributed
and consumed”.
