Ulaanbaatar, July 17, 2024 /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of President of Mongolia, H.E. Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs visited Mongolia and met with youth to discuss and advise on "Youth and Sustainable Development."

Jeffrey Sachs, a renowned economist and 2015 Blue Planet Prize recipient for environmental leadership, has twice been named one of the world's 100 most influential leaders by Time magazine.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Mongolia, E. Odbayar, Youth and Student Development Policy Advisor, D. Davaadorj, and representatives of youth in economics and technology fields.

Foreign Policy Advisor E. Odbayar noted, "Young people are getting the chance to engage with someone who has years of experience in formulating development policies and having answers on measuring development and reducing poverty. Additionally, interesting discussions are taking place on how youth participation can influence development policies. This youth meeting concludes four main activities planned for Jeffrey Sachs' visit, which will end with an official meeting with the Head of the Office of the President of Mongolia, Mr. G. Zandanshatar."

Youth and Student Development Policy Advisor D. Davaadorj highlighted, "Under President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa's policies, a digital library has been established, providing excellent accessibility for young people nationwide. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals. Youth participation in development policies has increased in recent years and it is a very positive trend. During the President's recent State Visit to Uzbekistan, we learned that the country considers people aged 18-40 as youth, and its youth development agency has been implementing various cultural and educational programs for the youth until 2030. Similarly, we are collaborating openly with students, youth, and school associations, offering young people opportunities to meet with the President and politicians. We believe meeting with young people with diverse policies and perspectives will create a healthy environment with the right policies."
