A Six-Lane 5.6-Kilometer Tunnel to Be Built in Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar, July 31, 2024 /MONTSAME/. A regular session of the Cabinet was held on July 31, 2024, and half a dozen issues were discussed.

 

Subsequently, the decisions made at the Government meeting were presented. Minister of Mongolia and Head of the 20-Minute City National Committee, Erdeneburen Ravjikh provided information on construction projects to be implemented in the capital.

 

Minister Erdeneburen stated, "We see it as essential to move certain parts of the capital city in other words some government institutions to the southern area of the Bogd Khan Mountain. Within this scope, we presented the projects and programs to the Government Meeting. These projects are not the issues that suddenly have arisen. The projects had been studied and calculated in the period of the previous Government as well.”

 


A 900-meter cable-stayed bridge with a six-lane auto road and a 5.6-kilometer tunnel with a six-lane auto road will be built in Ulaanbaatar. The tunnel will go through Bogd Khan Mountain, as a continuation of the bridge to be built over the Tuul River and the Tuul Highway. A complex of government administrative institutions will be established in the territory of 14th khoroo of Khan-Uul district, near the Kuwait Research Center, covering 4400 hectares of area.

 

"We presented several major projects to the Government meeting such as implementing a light rail transit (LRT) project in connection with the establishment of a metro, high-capacity public transport, starting the construction of the Tuul Highway and a new ring road within the framework of the development in the Khushigt Valley. Numerous projects will be implemented in Ulaanbaatar City to reduce congestion and within the scope of the 20-Minute City Project."
