Three Vehicles Removed from Lake Khuvsgul This Summer

Ulaanbaatar, August 20, 2024 /MONTSAME/. At the initiative of President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, the operation to remove sunken vehicles in Lake Khuvsgul aimed at protecting the ecosystem and cleaning up the pollution caused by sunken vehicles has been ongoing for the third consecutive year since July 15, 2024.


The retrieval operation is being led by Brigadier General J. Chultemsuren, First Deputy Chief and Chief of Staff of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and Colonel M. Batbold from the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces. The operation involves scientists, military consultants, and engineers from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the National Defense University, as well as personnel from the National Rescue Brigade under NEMA, units 113, 115, 119, and 123, and emergency management departments from the capital city, Orkhon, and Khuvsgul aimags, along with servicemen from units 186 and 234 of the Mongolian Armed Forces.


So far, three vehicles have been successfully removed from Lake Khuvsgul this year, with personnel working 31-62 hours to pull them from depths ranging from 50 to 171 meters.


In total, nine vehicles, including the Sukhbaatar vessel, have been retrieved since the beginning of the operation.
