One Billion Trees: 41.5 Million Trees Planted Nationwide

As part of the “One Billion Trees” National Movement initiated by President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, the nationwide tree planting for autumn is being held from September 24 to October 26, 2024. Starting from October 5, 2024, the nationwide tree planting has been taking place in ten designated locations in Ulaanbaatar city.
Citizens, who are unable to participate in the tree planting in designated locations, are encouraged to plant trees in their yards, camps, and in the vicinity of schools, kindergartens, and hospitals. Moreover, organizations and enterprises are urged to allocate 20 percent of their building and structure areas to green spaces.
Around 41.5 million trees have been planted in Mongolia, as reported by the Forest Department of the Government Implementing Agency. Selenge aimag leads the initiative, having planted and nurtured 4.7 million trees.
Under the “One Billion Trees” National Movement, Mongolia set a goal of planting and nursing a total of one billion trees by 2030. This initiative is expected to:
-Increase the forest coverage in Mongolia to 9 percent,
-Mitigate desertification and land degradation, enhance greenhouse gas absorption, and increase water resources,
-Mitigate climate change, and accelerate the recovery of green development.
