Deputy Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Receives Ambassadors of the French Republic and the European Union

Ulaanbaatar, December 19, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Deputy Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia and Chair of the Mongolia-France Parliamentary Group Purevdorj Bukhchuluun received Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic and the European Union to Mongolia, Mrs. Corinne Pereira da Silva and Mrs. Ina Marciulionyte on December 11, 2024.


At the meeting, Deputy Chairman Purevdorj provided an overview of the results of the 2024 parliamentary elections and the Joint Government, emphasizing that political stability has been established in Mongolia to ensure the protection of democracy, rule of law, and free market principles, which has placed the country at the threshold of development. Mr. Purevdorj further noted that one of the 14 mega-projects outlined in the Government’s Action Plan is the uranium project, which was reinforced by reciprocal visits between President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron in 2023. He highlighted that the Parliament of Mongolia adopted relevant amendments to the Law on Nuclear Energy to accelerate the implementation of the uranium project. 

The Deputy Chairman of the State Great Khural emphasized the importance of the Mongolia-France uranium project in the economic growth of the two countries and the energy sector of the European Union member states. He expressed confidence that Ambassadors of the two countries would support the implementation of the project and noted that Mongolia’s neighboring countries, the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, have a positive stance on this matter. Chair of the Mongolia-France Parliamentary Group mentioned that the State Great Khural will discuss and approve the project agreement during its autumn session.  

Ambassador of the French Republic to Mongolia Corinne Pereira da Silva emphasized that the Mongolia-France joint uranium project is crucial for advancing Mongolia’s economic and energy development, as well as strengthening its independence. Mrs. Corinne Pereira da Silva expressed confidence that cooperation between Mongolia and France would further expand and deepen, and that Mongolia’s major National Satellite project, although  its funding was delayed during the discussion of Mongolia’s 2025 State Budget, will be implemented.  

Moreover, Ambassador of the European Union to Mongolia Ina Marciulionyte noted that the European Union investors are closely monitoring the process of the Mongolia-France joint uranium project, and highlighted the project as a key opportunity to expand cooperation between the two countries. Furthermore, Mrs. Ina Marciulionyte announced preparations for the 2025 Mongolia-Europe Business Forum and discussed potential collaboration in the area of cybersecurity.
