Ulaanbaatar, March 7, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Mongolian Special Olympics Team of 24 athletes will participate in the “Turin-2025” Special Olympics World Winter Games, competing in alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoe running, dance, and floorball.
The Winter Games, taking place in Turin, Italy, March 8-16, 2025, will bring together over 1,500 athletes from 103 countries to compete in eight winter sports.
In 2023, Mongolia was recognized as one of 14 founding nations of the Special Olympics Global Coalition for Inclusion, which aims at promoting inclusive education for two million children with intellectual disabilities across 150,000 schools and communities worldwide.
During the Turin Games, the Coalition will hold a meeting under the theme: “Inclusive Social Development: Charting the Success of Global Leadership.” Representatives from member states, government officials, international partners, and experts from the sports, health, and education sectors will share experiences and discuss solutions to overcome challenges in promoting inclusivity.
Mongolia’s Special Olympics Committee, established in 2013, has achieved remarkable success, earning 10 gold, 17 silver, and 28 bronze medals at the Summer Games in Los Angeles, Abu Dhabi, and Berlin. This will be Mongolia’s second appearance at the Winter Games following their debut in Austria in 2017, where Mongolian athletes won two gold, four silver, and two bronze medals.
