Ulaanbaatar Marathon organizers aim for expansion
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Ulaanbaatar Marathon - 2017 public sporting event is to take place on May 20, this year.
The working group in charge of organization of the annual marathon, led by Deputy Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Sh.Ankhmaa, met on March 21, Tuesday to set the date and discuss other matters.
Organizers of the marathon, the Mayor’s Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, the Department of Tourism of the capital administration, the Mongolian National Olympics Committee and the Mongolian Ultra Marathon Federation expect about 25-30 thousand runners, hoping to expand the traditional event’s popularity.
The 2016 Ulaanbaatar Marathon registered some 23,890 runners which was the highest ever turn-out in the country’s biggest sporting event.
For amateur runners, the organizers are planning a 5000 meters run in four age categories 12-17, 18-35, 36-54 and 55 plus. Moreover, a 1.5 km distance run is available for families and disabled persons.
