Hakuho Davaajargal now holds record of most career wins in professional sumo

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ “Hakuho” titled M.Davaajargal, a grand champion of Japanese professional sumo, achieved the record number of wins in sumo’s history by claiming his 1,047th win in a bout with Sekiwake Tamawashi yesterday.
Thus, Hakuho Davaajargal holds the record of most career wins, which is first set by retired Ozeki Hakuho in his entire sumo career between 1988 and 2011. Following the two is late Yokozuna (grand champion) Chiyonofuji who claimed 1,045 between 1970 and 1991.
The 1,000th win of Hakuho happened on November 15 last year. He has another three bouts this month to set a new record for career wins. Hakuho is leading this month’s Nagoya Basho (bimonthly tournament) with 11 wins and one defeat. His next rival is Takayasu.
