Ice climbing competition encourages winter tourism

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Ice climbing competition themed ‘Ice Challenge Mongolia’ was co-organized by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and Mongolian National Climbing Federation on December 17 in Gorkhi-Terelj National Park.
The competition is being held since 2012 at the initiative of State Honored Athlete G.Usukhbayar and 'Mongolia Expeditions' company and this time competition was attended by 54 athletes of 11 teams from Mongolia and foreign countries. ‘Sutain bor’ club named after Sports Master Ya.Jantsan, won the first place. The second place went to ‘Ulaanbaatar ayalagch’ club and the third place to ‘Hyazgaarguid mats’ club.
Moreover dog sledding and quad biking tours were organized during the competition. Ice Challenge Mongolia competition to develop winter sport and the ice climbing has become not only new trend of extreme sport amateurs but also national brand event to attract athletes of this sport to Mongolia, encouraging winter tourism.
