Private companies and individuals taking possession of 78 percent of media

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On May 3, the Press Institute of Mongolia presented 2018 statistic report on ‘Mongolian Press-Today’.
A total of 434 organizations are running operations in the media and broadcasting sector in Mongolia with decrease of traditional media in the last five years. Private companies and individuals are taking possession of 78 percent of total journalism organizations. Sale of printed newspaper declined by over 5 percent compared to previous year and journal by 36 percent. Number of websites tends to increase year to year while traditional media decreases.
Today, some 4500 people are working in the sector and half of them are journalists, reporters and editors.
The report has unified data of about 100 press organizations operating in locality and over 300 organizations in the capital city based on database of the Institute and information received from the Communications Regulatory Commission and United Association of Websites.
