Two Korean teams under Unification flag arrived in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Judo teams from the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will march under the Korean Unification flag at the 2018 East-Asia Judo Championships, to be held on June 8-10 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, as reported previously.
Today, head of the Organizing Committee and Chief of Staff of President Office Z.Enkhbold and heads of judo teams of the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea gave report. During the first meeting of the Organizing Committee, the International Judo Federation and the Judo Union of Asia have put forward a proposal to the ROK and the DPRK to participate as a unified team under one flag at the 2018 East-Asia Judo Championship. The two Korea agreed the proposal. Chief of Staff of the President’s Office Z.Enkhbold said that it is the first time of the ROK and the DPRK to march under one flag (the Korean Unification flag) and participating as the unified team in a summer sport events.
Authorities of the International Judo Federation expressed their gratitude to the two Koreas for marching under the Korean Unification flag.
Vice President of the Korean Judo Association Cho Yong Chul expressed gratitude to Mongolia for showing support to the two Korean judo teams to participate as one team at the Championship. “I didn’t imagine that our judo teams will participate as one team. However, it became possible with the support of President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga. Our athletes and team will successfully compete at the Championships,” Mr. Cho Yong Chul noted.
Coach of the DPRK Judo Team Won Kyung Il said, “We are happy that we arrived in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to represent our country at the Championships. We will do our best”. He then wished success for judokas of the ROK and Mongolia, the host country.
Over 200 foreign delegates from Mongolia, Japan, the ROK, the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, the DPRK, Macau and Hongkong have arrived in Ulaanbaatar. The Championships will be judged by 20 referees from eight participating countries. Moreover, the Judo Union of Asia will held a International Referee Examination during the Championships.
