Minister Ts.Tsogzolmaa meets Ambassador of Canada to Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On June 20, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Ts.Tsogzolmaa welcomed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Mongolia David William Sproule and exchanged opinions on the bilateral cooperation in the spheres of education, culture, science and sports.
Minister Ts.Tsogzolmaa expressed willingness to renew the Memorandum of Understanding next year, which was established in 2014 with the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), noting that this year marks 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries at the beginning of the meeting.
Furthermore, the Minister put request to receive support from Canada's applicable organisations for enhancing capacity of material base and experimental production of agricultural institutions in the scientific field, studying the opportunities to implement long-term joint programs on green technology, disseminating science, giving science education to the high school students and university students, and establishing science museum. She also expressed interest in implementing projects on development of young scholars, training them in Canadian academic organizations and implementing student exchange programs.
A number of proposals were also introduced such as promoting innovation infrastructure, cooperating in enhancement of national innovation system, encouraging initiatives of lecturers and academic organizations regarding innovation activities, conducting regular trainings on development of innovation and entrepreneurship, then receiving advice of applicable organizations about technology and innovation, and hiring voluntary specialists were made during the meeting.
The sides are working on the establishment of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two countries in the field of sports and draft of the Memorandum was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They also shared views on jointly developing winter sports, especially hockey, and studying Canada’s experience of establishing winter sports facility.
In addition, some universities of the two countries have direct collaboration: the National University of Mongolia with the York University of Toronto, Mongolian University of Science and Technology with the University of British Columbia and the University of Calgary, and Mongolian University of Life Sciences with the University of Saskatchewan.
