Farewell ceremony held for senior athletes

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On January 6 at the Central Sports Palace, a farewell ceremony was held for Mongolian athletes, who will participate in III Winter World Masters Games to be hosted in Innsbruck, Australia between January 8 and 20. A total of 36 Mongolian athletes will compete in skate, short track, hockey and ski sports.
The Second Winter World Masters Games took place in 2015 in Quebec, Australia, where over 20 Mongolian athletes represented the country and won 4 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals.
The III Winter World Masters Games will bring together around 3 thousand athletes from over 60 countries. 78-years-old B.Jalbaa is the eldest athlete of Mongolian team and he first challenged his abilities in ski event of the IX Winter Olympics that took place in Innsbruck, Australia in 1964 when he was 22 years old. He also participated in 1968 Winter Olympics held in Grenoble, France. 56 years later, Mr. B.Jalbaa will challenge his speed in four races including 500m, 1000m, 1500m and 3000m speed skating.
He
undertook an honored duty to participate in the opening ceremony of the 3rd
games as a flag holder of the national team of Mongolia. During
the farewell ceremony, Chief of the Physical Culture and Sports Authority
Ts.Sharavjamts handed over the state flag of Mongolia to B.Jalbaa and wished
success to the team.
Mongolian athletes will take part in hockey event for the first time and the hockey players will depart from their home country on January 11-12. While, 17 athletes will compete in two categories- short track and speed skating and they will head to Australia on January 8.
