President receives ADB representatives

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On August 25, representatives led by the Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s Country Director for Mongolia Pavit Ramachandran paid a courtesy call on President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh. The Country Director congratulated the President on his election in June and expressed a positive outlook for Mongolia’s development.

 

President U.Khurelsukh extended gratitude to ADB for implementing projects and programs worth over USD 3 billion in finance, infrastructure, and urban development over the 30 years of partnership between Mongolia and the bank, underscoring that the USD 360 million assistance for the country’s COVID-19 response has been of great help in a difficult time.

 

The sides both voiced readiness to work together in achieving green and inclusive social and economic development and in infrastructure, investment, environmental degradation, climate change, and many other areas. 

 

ADB will support and cooperate with Mongolia in its transition from welfare to work, from mining to processing, and from an importer to an exporter as well as in making fundamental economic changes over the coming years. It was emphasized at the meeting that the reforms mentioned by the President are consistent with the ADB’s Mongolia Country Partnership Strategy 2021-2024 to be approved by ADB Board of Directors. 

 

The President and the ADB Country Director also discussed regional cooperation, implementation of mega projects on railway system, oil refinery, and the hydropower plant, improving the quality of healthcare and education, attracting transnational corporations to Mongolia, boosting investments, leveraging the well-educated and skilled workforce in the country, creating jobs in large numbers, and enabling the country’s skilled citizens abroad to work in their home country. 

 

Concurring with the President, Mr. Pavit Ramachandran said it is possible for the two sides to cooperate on major projects and programs on green growth, environmental protection, and infrastructure, stressing the great significance the raw coal ban, which was imposed by the President during his tenure as the Prime Minister of Mongolia, has had in environmental protection efforts.
