Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the UN Addresses High-Level Meeting of the UN Security Council

Ulaanbaatar, February 24, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Ankhbayar Nyamdorj participated in the high-level meeting of the UN Security Council entitled “Implementing Multilateralism and Reforming Global Governance” on February 20, 2025.


Emphasizing multilateralism as the most effective way to address global challenges, Permanent Representative Ankhbayar praised the UN’s role. He noted the need for comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council to make it more representative, transparent, and effective, and stressed the importance of strengthening international law and the rules-based order. Mr. Ankhbayar highlighted that the global financial system should be changed to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, increase financing, and ensure the participation of developing countries.


The Permanent Representative of Mongolia also expressed the country’s commitment to combating climate change and resolving environmental challenges and presented ongoing preparations for hosting the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in Ulaanbaatar in 2026. Moreover, Mongolia expressed its firm support for the Pact for the Future document, which targets reviving multilateralism and reforming global governance.


The meeting, organized at the initiative of China, which holds the presidency of the UN Security Council this month, was chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and opened by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Representatives of 98 member states participated in the meeting, particularly 10 countries at the level of foreign ministers and deputy ministers, including Algeria, Bolivia, Cuba, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Hungary, and Ukraine, reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.
