Mongolian Chess Players to Compete in the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Chess Championships

Ulaanbaatar, June 9, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Chess Championships will commence on June 10, 2025, in London, the United Kingdom.

 

Three Mongolian teams depart for the 7-day Championships to be held in London. Mongolia’s national team will compete in full at the upcoming World Blitz and Rapid Team Chess Championships, featuring top players from 54 teams in each format. The team will be led by Chief of Staff to President of Mongolia and President of the Mongolian Chess Federation Zandanshatar Gombojav. It is required that one team member must have a FIDE rating lower than 2,000 to compete in the Championships, which qualifies Arena International Master (AIM) Zandanshatar Gombojav. 


The first national team includes International Masters G. Amartuvshin and M. Amilal, Grandmasters U. Uuriintuya and T. Munkhzul, as well as FIDE Masters S. Chinguun and D. Amarbat, whereas the second team is composed of Grandmasters B. Munguntuul and S. Bilguun, International Master S. Gan-Erdene, FIDE Master N. Sodbilegt, Candidate Master B. Mungunzul, President of the Mongolian Chess Federation Zandanshatar Gombojav, and G. Enkhbayar. Meanwhile, the “MongolZ” team features Grandmaster D. Nomin-Erdene, International Master Kh. Itgelt, Retvars Reimanis, FIDE Master S. Chinguun, B. Anu, Kh. Ulziikhishig, and Cristian Araya. The players will compete under the leadership of Coach S. Gan-Erdene.

 

The Opening Ceremony of the Championships and the first four rounds of the rapid games will take place on June 11, 2025, with the 5th to 12th rounds to be held on June 12-13, 2025, when the champions of the rapid format will be determined. The Blitz champions will be decided on June 14-15, 2025, followed by the Closing Ceremony.

 

Notably, at last year’s World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships held in Astana, the Republic of Kazakhstan, Candidate Master B. Mungunzul won the individual bronze medal on Board 5.
