Mongolia-People’s Republic of China Joint Border Commission Agrees on Infrastructure and Security Priorities

Ulaanbaatar, June 13, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Sixth Meeting of the Mongolia-People’s Republic of China Joint Border Commission was held in Ulaanbaatar City on June 10-11, 2025.
The Meeting was co-organized by J. Soyolmaa, Director of the Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, and Sun Honglian, Counselor of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. The delegations also included representatives from border protection agencies, customs authorities, port administrations, water and forestry departments, as well as local government officials.
During the Meeting, the two sides exchanged views and reached consensus on the following key areas:
Cooperation in border area monitoring and law enforcement;
Preparatory work for the third joint inspection of the Mongolia-People’s Republic of China state border;
Prevention of forest and grassland fires in border regions;
Issues related to transboundary rivers, Kherlen and Sharilj Rivers;
Coordination on emerging cross-border infrastructure, including 5G and AGV (Automatic Guided Vehicle)
Discussions on new transportation routes and infrastructure, such as the new crossing point at the Bichigt-Zuunkhatavch Road Port, the new cargo transport corridor at the Khavirga-Arkhashaat Road Port, and the alignment point of the cross-border infrastructure within the Zamyn-Uud–Ereen Economic Cooperation Zone.
Moreover, the two sides agreed that the Seventh Meeting of the Joint Border Commission will be hosted by the People’s Republic of China in 2026.
This Commission serves as an institutional mechanism to ensure the implementation of the “Agreement between the Government of Mongolia and the Government of the People’s Republic of China on Border Regime.”
