/MONTSAME/. The Chinggis Khaan National Museum of Mongolia, in
collaboration with the Rietberg Museum of the Swiss Confederation, opened a
special exhibition titled “Mongolia: A Journey Through Time” in Zurich on October 23, 2025.
The exhibition aims to promote the legacy and greatness of Chinggis
Khaan, showcase the cultural heritage of nomadic Mongols, and help future
generations understand the true historical significance and global impact of Chinggis
Khaan and the Mongol Empire.
Jointly organized by the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, the Kharkhorin Museum, and the Institute of Archaeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the exhibition features 235 artifacts across 162 displays and will remain open to the public until February 22, 2026.
The exhibition aims to challenge conventional perceptions of Mongolia by connecting modern art with Mongolian history and is organized into three main sections. It depicts how, from the 1st to the 14th centuries, the Mongols were part of an ancient cultural region that actively participated in Eurasian exchanges of culture, technology, and goods, spanning from the Hunnu Empire to the Mongol Empire.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Acting
Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Davaatseren
Byambasuren, remarked, “This exhibition presents a rare opportunity to
convey the millennia-old heritage and the essence of the national mindset of
the ancient nomads to the modern world. It represents the journey of the
Mongolian people through history, the depth of their artistic heritage, and the
profound expression of their spirit. Culture is the most powerful language that
connects nations, and an exhibition such as this is a vivid example of that
remarkable language.”
Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum and Academician, Dr. Chuluun Sampildondov, stated, “The exhibition ‘Mongolia – A Journey Through Time’ not only
presents a comprehensive view of the history of Mongol nomads but also leads us
into the nomadic world, allowing visitors to experience greater wonders,
advanced technology, and refined craftsmanship. The future itself is not the
only marvel; the past is equally awe-inspiring. This exhibition is not just a
journey through time; it is a way to rediscover knowledge from the past and
send a message forward to the future.” Dr. S. Chuluun also expressed gratitude
to the Rietberg Museum, describing it as Switzerland’s largest art museum,
renowned for its rich collection of Mongolian and Eastern cultural artifacts,
and thanked the institution for its continued cooperation in promoting
Mongolia’s cultural heritage to the world.
Earlier this year, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum participated in the “Chinggis Khaan” exhibition in Prague, Czech Republic, and the “World Expo 2025” preview exhibition in Osaka, Japan, presenting artifacts depicting the history of the Mongol Empire. The Zurich exhibition marks the museum’s first show in Europe, bringing Mongolian culture to European audiences.
The exhibition’s installation and preparation were led by curator L. Yesuntei and collections registrar S. Buyanjargal of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, who transported and handed over the exhibits to the Rietberg Museum and oversaw the setup and display arrangements in the gallery halls.

According to the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, the exhibition’s opening ceremony was attended by over 200 guests. From the Mongolian side, participants included Director of the Department of Arts and Creative Work of the Cultural and Arts Authority, S. Delgermaa, Director of the Institute of Archaeology at the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, Regzen Gelegdorj, Director of the Kharakhorum Museum, T.
