OSCE Welcomes Mongolia’s Progress on Press Freedom

Ulaanbaatar, December 8, 2025/MONTSAME/. During her participation in the 32nd Meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial Council in Vienna, the Republic of Austria, Minister of Foreign Affairs Battsetseg Batmunkh met with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Jan Braathu.


At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on Mongolia’s policies to strengthen press freedom and ensure the safety of journalists, as well as prospects for further cooperation.


Minister Battsetseg expressed her appreciation for the legal recommendations and joint assessments provided by the OSCE in support of Mongolia’s reform of the media legal framework. The Minister emphasized that ensuring information accessibility and transparency, along with promoting the sustainable and independent development of the media sector, is one of the Government’s key priorities.


Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh stressed that within the framework of further cooperation, there is a need to strengthen media literacy, ethical journalism, cybersecurity, and human resource capacity, and proposed implementing joint training and capacity-building programs for journalists and public servants.


The OSCE, for its part, commended Mongolia’s progress in promoting press freedom and advancing sectoral reforms, and expressed its readiness to expand cooperation in media literacy and professional journalism, including through training programs involving media professionals.
