Foreign relations in mining sphere in June

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Ministry of Mining released last week the "Transparent Mining" press update, providing information about actions of Mongolia’s mining sphere this month. The Minister R.Jigjid, for example, held several important meetings.

He and the Ambassador of Russian Federation to Mongolia I.K.Azizov signed the Mongolia-Russia Intergovernmental Protocol on Amending the Agreement on Erdenet Mining Corporation’s Operations, signed July 1 of 2003 by the Governments of Mongolia and the Russian Federation, and the Intergovernmental Protocol on Amending the Agreement on Operation of “Mongolrostsvetmet” joint venture, signed April 25 of 2007 by the two Governments.

Mr Jigjid received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.O.Meredev on June 3 to  inform him on large projects in mining, energy, infrastructure, railroad and highway and to share with him ideas on further cooperation.

On the matter regarding the extraction of radio-active minerals in Mongolia, the Minister met with Yas Doida, a general manager of Mitsubishi Corporation, and with T.Plaisant, a director of AREVA Mongolia LLC.

The Minister also met with Rob Macaire, a Direcor for Political Risk in BG Group, and discussed about increasing UK’s investment in Mongolia’s oil sector and cooperating in exploration and extraction at “Ongi 5” and “Bogd 4” sites.

To discuss about capacity building training and information technology renovation in the mining sector, the Minsiter received representatives of University of British Columbia of Canada and of Akita University of Japan.

The Ministry organized a bilateral meeting with representatives of the Authority for Mineral Resources of Chinese Inner Mongolia, on cooperation in exploration studies.
