Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A mummified corpse, later discovered to be the remains of a Mongolian high-rank Buddhist lama, was found in January this year, on the edge of being smuggled. The shrine is to be exalted publicly at Gandan Tegchinlen Monastery in Ulaanbaatar this October 21-22, before being returned to its sacred tomb in Arkhangai aimag.

A series of studies has proved that the mummified corpse belongs to Ravsaliin Sanjaijav, the “live” saint Agramba (a higher rank among Buddhist monks) who lived in 1826-1905. Until today, it was believed that the process of embalming and mummifying had been done with external help. However, accordingly, the Old Geser Lama Ts.Chultemjamts and Agramba R.Sanjaijav had become “living” Buddhas by mummifying themselves sitting in lotus position.

After the death of the renowned Old Geser Lama, his disciples had located their teacher in a gap of Sodnomdarjaa mountain, which faces the Khokh Nuur (Blue Lake). One of his disciples R.Sanjaijav had also been honored to rest beside his teacher in the same tomb and remained untouched until being stolen.
