President is asked to ensure participation of people with disabilities

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ It is very important to ensure a participation of people with disabilities in the decision- and policy-making processes, said D.Gerel, a president of the National Union of Mongolia for People with Visual Impairment, at a meeting with the President Ts.Elbegdorj  Wednesday.

He asked the President to collaborate with them in supporting this participation and to make an appeal. As an example, he mentioned about the US President Barack Obama who bears a council in charge of people with disabilities.

Mongolia has some 108 thousand people with disabilities, they are not able to live normally, as ordinary people in the nowadays society, he went on. The matter on the disabled is the issue of the whole country, he said, and appreciated a submitting of a draft law on the people with disabilities to parliament.

In response, Mr Elbegdorj highly spoke the union’s actions for resolving problems of the disabled and promised the visitir to pay attention to the matter. He said it is possible to issue an appeal on protecting interests of the disabled and tackling problems, or to decree to give directions to the government. 

Present at this meeting were P.Shinechimeg, secretary of the National Union of Mongolia for People with Visual Impairment; Z.Boldsaikhan, director of the vocational training center for the people with visual impairment; and L.Ariunbold, an external relations expert at the training center.
