Ice hockey team wins bronze medal in Challenge Cup of Asia
SportsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The national ice hockey team of Mongolia grabbed a bronze medal in the top division of the 9th IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia which was concluded last week in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.
In the bronze medal match, the Mongolian team defeated Thailand’s team with scores 7:3, collecting two wins and two loses in the preliminary rounds. This is the fourth bronze medal for the Mongolian national team at the Challenge Cup of Asia.
The team of Chinese Taipei won the Challenge Cup for the sixth time after beating the UAE.
The IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia are a series of international ice hockey tournament on the continent of Asia. The purpose of the tournament is to provide competitive opportunities for Asian teams that are either in the lower divisions of the IIHF World Championship or do not compete in the World Championship. The first event was held in Hong Kong in 2008, with the second edition held a year later in the UAE.
