Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ “Eastern Region Energy System” state-owned company was established in 1970, expanded in 1980 and renovated in 1998-2001. The company supplies power to 23,774 households and 2,170 entities. Of the total energy produced by the system, 53 percent is used by mining and oil companies, 17 percent–by Sukhbaatar aimag and 30 percent–by Dornod aimag, said CEO Ch.Chinbat.

PM Ch.Saikhanbileg legged the company in the margin of his appointment in the eastern aimags on March 24. The company requested the government to forward 100 MWT expansion, necessary for meeting an increasing demand of power in the region.

The PM said that, in the last three years, the government has been attaching more importance to the energy sector and had increased a capacity by 323 MWT. He underlined that the energy sector of Mongolia had worked without any deficit for the first time, thanks to the readjustment of power tariff.

Renovation in the eastern power system had been on hold due to the stagnation of decision-making, especially on financing. Finally, the government decided to have the project executed on concession agreement.

The 100MWT expansion project will be executed by “Megawatt” company, said the Premier.
