Birth rate declining

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In the first four months of this year, 25,284 mothers delivered 25,400 children (live births), showing a decrease of 1,114 mothers or 4.2% and by 1,161 babies or 4.4% against the previous year.

At the national level, the infant mortality rate reached 576 in first four months of 2016, increasing by 166 or 40.5%, and mortality rate among children aged under 5 reached 665, increasing by 189 or 39.7 against the previous year. In April alone, the infant mortality rate was 149 which increased by 60 or 67.4%, and the mortality rate among children aged under 5--174, indicating an increase of 69 or 65.7% against the previous year.

In first four months of 2016, the infant mortality rate per 1,000 births reached 23, increasing by eight, and mortality rate among children aged under 5--26, increasing by eight against the previous week. In April, it was 24, showing an increase of 11, and the mortality rate among children aged under 5 reached 28, increasing by 13 compared to the same period of the previous year.
