Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh expressed his readiness to make the Mongolia-UN cooperation closer, when he met Beate Trankmann, UN Resident Coordinator and UN Development Programme Resident Representative to Mongolia, on October 12. The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to her for a congratulatory letter.

U.Khurelsukh said he will ensure the continuity of the actions and promises of the Government of Mongolia to carry out the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), appreciating the UN's support to Mongolia through humanitarian and development aids for sustainable social and economic growth and equal access to the fruits of development.

The Prime Minister pledged to intensify works of the National Development Agency, improve intersectoral collaboration and provide it with proper policy in order to achieve the SDGs. He also thanked the UN's technical assistance for framing the national indicators and monitoring framework for the SDGs and for conducting systematic assessment on intersectoral collaboration.

For her part, Beate Trankmann appreciated the Mongolian Government’s commitment to implementation of the SDGs.

She noted that the SDGs deal with three pillars of sustainability--economy, society and environment.

“We understand that Mongolia is primarily focusing on the economic pillar due to its current circumstances,” she said and expressed hope that Mongolia will not leave the other two pillars behind.

The Resident Coordinator also emphasized the necessity to enhance intersectoral collaboration, identify leading investment spheres and determine regulations for the SDGs' implementation.
