O.Enkhtsetseg delivers speech UNGA Second Committee meeting

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Director of the Multilateral Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs O.Enkhtsetseg delivered speech at a meeting of the UN General Assembly’s Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) held on October 11-12 in the frameworks of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly.
It discussed issues of eliminating all forms of poverty, one of the directions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.

In her speech, O.Enkhtsetseg underlined the importance of boosting the employment, making the educational and health services more accessible and ensuring the governance and the equality in order to reduce poverty rate. Then she introduced the Governmental policies and actions directed at supporting the social welfare for youths, herders, elders and people with disabilities and backing start-up business and SME. Furthermore, O.Enkhtsetseg highlighted in her speech that the Government of Mongolia is keeping a policy on diversifying its economy by declining the mining dependence, producing value-added goods and supporting the agriculture and green development. The Government of Mongolia is focusing on strengthening the legal governance, combating corruption and the equal distribution of profit from mineral wealth.
At the meeting, the UN Secretariat presented achievements gained at national, regional and international levels in works done in a decade (2008-2017) in abolishing poverty, supporting employment and reducing inequality, the implementation of policies on education, health and social welfare and lessons from the global economic and financial crisis.
Member states of the UN expressed their position regarding the above issues.
